Air Grade D Technical Specifications

Air Grade D Technical Specifications. Compressed air has many applications, including its use for breathing in occupational applications. Some of these applications are the use of the breathing air cylinders of the autonomous masks and other applications may also use compressed air line respirators (with or without positive pressure) from compressors of all types.

In the agency standard of the United States Department of Labor Safety (OSHA – 1910.134) the requirement is that breathable compressed air must meet at least the requirements for Grade D breathable air described in ANSI / Compressed Gas Association Commodity Specification for Ar, G-7.1.

The complete specifications are detailed in the ANSI / Compressed Gas Association Commodity Specification for Air, G-7.1-1989, which include:

  • Oxygen content: 19.5 ≤ O2 ≤ 23.5%;
  • Hydrocarbon content (condensed): ≤ 5 mg / m3;
  • Carbon monoxide (CO) content: ≤10 ppm;
  • Carbon dioxide content: ≤ 1000 ppm;
  • No noticeable odor

In annex A of our NBR 12543 there is a table with the same specifications as CGA G-7.1.
